5 Ways to Save Money for Your Wedding

Its June and we know a lot of you are getting married. So, we thought wed try and help out with our 10 money saving wedding tips. For us, its always good to save a little money so you can put it towards other things (those Jimmy Choos or Manolos youve been eyeing for yourwedding shoes). So, here are some of our best money saving tips for your wedding.

1. Negotiate upfront with the photographer to get all of the jpeg images and rights Most of you may not be thinking about this right now, but one of the biggest bills you get slapped with after your wedding is for your photographs. Yup, thats right. Those beautiful pictures that you want to buy? Each one will cost you at least $150 or more. So, if you want 10, youre already out more than $1000. Many of you will spend $3000- $5000 more for the photos since youll want some, your parents will want some, and youll want to get an album. So, one tip to do ahead of time is to negotiate with your photographer to buy all of the photos. Then, you can take it to the nearest Costco and get them printed out for a $1. Or you can go online and make your own photo album for $50. Whatever you want, this is one of the biggest money savers we have for weddings.

2. Check department stores for your bridesmaid dresses: For those brides that are buying the dresses for their bridesmaids, or for those who arent, but still want to help their friends save money, one tip is to check regular department stores for bridesmaid dresses. Places like Nordstrom or Macys will have fantastic summer dresses that can double as bridesmaid dresses and are much cheaper because they dont carry the label wedding. Fantastic dresses from BCBG, Laundry, Max Studio and more can be found for less than $200 in a department store. Plus, your bridesmaids will love you for finding them a dress that they can wear again!

3. Buy flip flops from Old Navy or Target or Walmart: If youre having a beach wedding and need somewedding flip flops, look no further than Old Navy or Target or Walmart. The flip flops can be as low as $3 and you can buy them for your whole wedding party in a ton of different sizes and styles. Theyll love you for giving them something comfortable, and youll love the small bill that you receive for buying so many pairs.

4. Priceline your hotel for your honeymoon or even wedding night: Priceline or hotwire can be your best friend and save you a ton of money on your hotel and car rental for your honeymoon or wedding. Todays article in the Wall Street Journal talks about wedding registries and how much they have changed. More and more, couples are registering for other things besides china and first-time home gifts. An article in the Smart Money Blog talks about beating Wedding Gift Sticker-Shock. So, we sat down to come up with a list of 5 things that you can buy a couple that arent on their registry, but that they will truly love. Here are our ideas. If youve thought of others, please share.

1. Wine or Cheese or Food of the Month Club membership What better way to give a gift than one that comes every month? These days, the wine or cheese or food of the month clubs are becoming more and more popular. These are fantastic and fun and your friends can look forward to something coming every month. One of our new favorites is the Foodzie Tasting Box. This is a mixed collection of different foods to taste and try. A 6 month subscription costs $100 and every box comes with a mix of a lot of different things.

2. Gift Certificate to a Restaurant This is one of our favorites. If you and the couple have gone to a favorite restaurant before or if you have a restaurant you love, why not get the couple a gift certificate to that restaurant? Plus, this allows you to set the amount you want to give them instead of buying a particular item from the registry.

Plus, sometimes couples would never think of this themselves so giving them an activity is a fun way for them to explore something new.

Why not get them tickets to an upcoming concert or a one-year museum membership or 2 year-long passes to Disneyland? The couple may never splurge on this themselves, but if you get it for them, they will be able to enjoy that experience for a long time.

5. Finally, the most practical idea that weve seen is a 6 month or 3 month maid service. After the wedding, the couple will find themselves overwhelmed with Thank You cards, gifts, and cleaning up and moving in together. Why not get them maid service that will take the burden off of them? Having a fantastic cleaning service come and clean the house for them will take the stress off and give them more free time to spend with each other. As many couples saying, it all starts at home and arguments over the little things are the most stressful things a couple can experience, especially a newly married one.

Finally, we don’t add this to the list, but if you know the bride, the final option is just to give her a new pair ofwedding shoesor something else that only she likes. Why not buy her that dress she’d been eyeing or the shoes she’s coveted for the last few months? We’re sure her husband would be happy to not have to buy that item and your friend will be happy to receive something besides household goods.

Bridesmaids Wearing Different Wedding Shoes?

A post on at theGreen Wedding Shoes blogreminded me of a discussion weve had recently about bridesmaid wedding shoes. The big question was this if everyone is wearing the same bridesmaid dress, should everyone also wear the same shoes?

Our stylists discussed this for quite awhile. Some people really liked the uniformity of the same shoes under the same dress. Some felt that it was important, especially if the bridesmaids were wearing short dresses where everyone could see the shoes. Finally, some felt that it was way too much for the bride to ask the bridesmaids to do this unless the bride was willing to buy the shoes for her bridesmaids. As a bridesmaid, you are already paying for the bridal shower and the bachelorette party and most likely, the dress. So, after plunking down more than $500 on average, you have to buy the wedding shoes? So many of the stylists felt like this was way too much for a bride to ask.

So, instead of debating, we decided to look for pictures to get a better idea of what it looks like with the same shoes and different bridesmaid shoes. Heres what we found.

What are the pros?

1) Everyone looks uniform

6) Somebody has to buy all of the shoes and spend more money

What are the pros?

In looking at this list, it seems like the different shoes allow your bridesmaids to be more individual and unique. They also can save some money since you arent asking them to buy new shoes. If you want all of your bridesmaids to wear the same wedding shoes, then you are asking them to spend a bit more money unless you are willing to pay for them. But, the look is really uniform and you know the pictures wont look funny. Plus, just in case you have that one friend who tends to choose some tacky shoes, you can make sure you avoid that.

So, whats the verdict? There really isnt one. We think it depends on the bride, the look she wants, the bridesmaids that she has, and whether or not she wants to be more free with the wedding look or she wants to control it a bit more. The only big tip we do come away with? Decide early. Do not wait until the last minute to make this important shoe decision. Make sure you know what type of wedding shoes you want your bridesmaids to wear so you give them time to buy them or find the right ones and break them in and practice walking down the aisle in them.

Find Me the Perfect Bridal Flats

Brides-to-be love their heels and pumps, but the request we got today is focused on wedding flats. Heres the email we got from Johanna:

Hi! I just bought the J. Crew Marquis gown and I need help! I am 6 feet tall and dont want to tower over my fianc so I want a pair of flats. Sandals or ballet flats are fine, Id consider either. Were having a wedding in a garden so the shoes should match that garden atmosphere. Any suggestions?

Once they saw the wedding dress, our stylists started their search for the best wedding flats to match. Here are their suggestions Johanna:

Stylist Stacy Evans

Love the goddess type gown you chose Johanna! It definitely exudes a romantic aura and I have just the shoes to match. To me, all you need to do is add some simple jewelry and romantic shoes and your wedding look will be complete. Your wedding gown is beautiful on its own with its gorgeous tulle skirt and silver rhinestone beads adorning the bodice. To me, I would look for a few rhinestones on the shoes to complement the dress. Here are a few gorgeous shoes that I found for you:

Silver: Colorful Creations Blast I love these gorgeous flip flops because they are simple and beautiful. The straps have little rhinestone ornaments decorating the front, but they wont overwhelm your dress.

To add spark to your look and create a nice contrast with your wedding dress, I looked for shoes with rhinestones or roses that will really complete the look. Here are the shoes I found for you:

Royal Wedding Watch Party Recap

So, we did it! On Thursday night, we stayed up all night to watch the royal wedding. We made our guesses, we drank our champagne, we ate our tea and scones and we made it through. Some of us dozed off right before, but all of us were up and waiting to catch that first glimpse of Kate Middletons wedding dress.

So, what did we think? We loved, loved it! It was traditional, but modern, elegant, but fancy and it was everything that a future Queen should look like. We thought the bride looked simply fantastic and we loved how she kept her hair down and let her long veil drape over her face. In the end, the dress was designed by Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen so Alex and Samantha were both right! The lace detail and the long train were simply gorgeous. We also loved the dress designed for Middletons sister Pippa. It really showed off her long, lean lines and we know a ton of men who fell in love there!

But all of our eyes were really watching Kate as she walked down the aisle. I dont know about you, but we were wondering what she was thinking as she took that 4 minute walk. Must have been one of the longest walks of her life. Personally, I was just hoping that she wouldnt trip or accidentally fall. Plus, I was surprised by how calm and collected she was. I know if it were me, I would be so nervous!

The problem with such a long dress was that it was really hard to get a look at the wedding shoes. According to the Royal web site, the shoes were custom made by Sarah Burton and her design team and they were made to match the lace on her wedding dress. This is the closest we can find to what it might look like and they are actually selling these shoes on Londons Net-a-porter site, a sort of Gilt or Shopbop for those lucky girls in the UK. Thedesigner wedding shoeswe are showing are 4 inches high and go for $995. Not a bad deal if you want to walk down the aisle like a princess!

Finally, we had to show you the second wedding dress that she wore. It was also made by Sarah Burton and this time it was a bit more revealing strapless, cinched at the waist with a gorgeous diamante detailing, and also A-line, but still managing to show off her fantastic figure. This dress is a lot easier to get a duplicate of and weve seen a similar version in many stores. So, if you ladies fancy this princess style A-line dress, go hit the wedding stores and you should find it by many different designers.

As for us, after our big Thursday night party, we were knocked out until Saturday since we had gotten no sleep in 24 hours. It was all worth it in the end to see the wedding of the decade as it happened live!

Royal Wedding Watch Party Tonight

As with any wedding obsessed group, we will be having a royal wedding slumber watch party tonight. Yes! Were going over to Samanthas house and then will be staying up all night to watch!!! We cant wait and have been planning the menu for a long time. Alex suggested scones and tea, champagne and sandwiches, and some good old fashioned English beer! Well also have lots of chocolate and coffee in case some of us start to dose off.

So, if any of you are interested, here are the top 5 things well be watching for at the royal wedding:

1. Kate MiddletonWedding Shoes Well, of course! Since were all obsessed with shoes, we cant wait to see what Kate has chosen. High heels or low heels, bridal flats or wedges most of us think shes going to go for something comfortable, but you never know. Plus, she is really comfortable in pumps so she might just go with a smart pair of those decorated in some fabulous jewelry.

2. Bridal Gown

We think this is one of the most anticipated items in history. So many people have been guessing what Kate is going to choose Stella McCartney or Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen? Catherine Walker or Elizabeth Emanuel? Big princess style or elegant trumpet? A-line? Long evening gown? Personally, our top guess is something very elegant. We just cant see Kate in a big ball gown like Princess Di. It just doesnt seem to be her style given all of her elegant long lean lines. She is also tall enough to pull off an elegant trumpet. The trumpet style dress will allow her to get in the frills and the rhinestones and some poof, but also allow her to show off her even skinnier, gorgeous hips and waist.

3. Hair

Rumor has it that Kate was seen leaving her family home this past Tuesday with a perfect chignon that swept back style in a perfect bun. This has happened twice in the past few weeks causing a lot of people to speculate that this will be her hairstyle of choice. Plus, with possible weather conditions and the fact that she will have to travel and walk around all day, we think the swept back hair is the perfect choice for staying in place and not looking messy at any angle. We love her normal long layers, but we think that stylists will have concerns about certain picture angles if the wind picks up. So, thats our guess for Kate Middleton wedding hair, but you never know.

4. Jewelry

This is something we cant wait to see. A princess and future queen has to have some fantastic jewelry. It is going to be diamonds or sapphires or emeralds? Rumor has it that she can borrow almost anything from the queen. If that is the case, her selection will be so vast. The question is, will she choose something blue and kill two birds with one stone? Will she just wear a necklace or earrings and a bracelet? All we know is that any jewelry she wants, she will get! So, we cant see what sparklers shell be wearing.

5. Flowers

Finally, for us, we cant wait to see what flowers will be decorating the ceremony and what her bouquet will look like? One thing weve heard is that it is very important which flowers she has chosen since each flower has a significant meaning and that the majority of the flowers will come from Windsor Great Park. Another thing we know is that there will be six English Field Maples and 2 Hornbeams lining the aisles. All of the flowers and trees will be replanted after they are used which makes the royal couple very green.

Stylists Pick Kate Middletons Wedding Shoes

Just read a great post about the wedding shoes favored by royal princesses over at the Well Appointed House onroyal wedding shoes.

It got us to thinking and talking about what wedding shoes Kate is going to choose. We were under the impression that she had already chosen something low and stable so that she wouldnt trip while walking down the long aisle. That made a lot of sense to us since shes already pretty tall. Most of the time, we see taller brides opt for comfort over height since they dont need it as much. Its our petite brides that tend to go for the platform wedding shoes.

So, what do our stylists think that Kate Middleton is going to pick? Or rather, what would our stylists pick if they were Kate Middleton? Heres our thoughts on Kate Middletons princess wedding shoes:

Stacy: Im loving the Badgley Mischka Dreamy Flower T-Strap Sandals. Id love to see her in lots of gorgeous chiffon although Im thinking shes going to go with something more sleek for her wedding dress. Given that, if I were Kate, I would make my look a bit softer and prettier with theseivory wedding shoes. I just love how the flowers drape along the t-straps and grace the front of your feet. They are such a soft shoe and they make your feet look so girly. I love Kates style, but on your wedding day, Id love to see her look get a little softer and more feminine.

Trish: If I were her, Id go for the complete princess look. Something that draped over my feet with lots of jewels and rhinestones. Thats why, my choice would be the Manolo Blahnik Bejeweled Ankle-Wrap Sandal. Check out all of the little crystal rhinestones that dangle from your ankles. Those rhinestones, along with the ones in front provide your feet with the perfect jewelry for the big day. To me, a princess needs as many jewels as possible and why shouldnt she be all decked out on her wedding day?

Sam: Id go with the Manolo Blahnik Satin Ankle-Wrap dOrsays in White. I think her dress is going to be so beautiful that she wont need silver or rhinestones to stand out. To me, the subtleness of thesewhite wedding shoesis perfect. These heels arent too high (3.5 inches), and also have the all important ankle strap. If I were her, Id be worried about losing my shoe and then tripping and falling, so I think the strap at the ankle will allow her to calm her nerves. Plus, the open toe shoe is great for extra comfort since her toes wont be squeezed into one of her trademark pumps.

Dani: The Louboutin Crystal Encrusted Suede Pumps would be my choice. I love the fact that the whole shoe is decorated in glamorous crystals. This is the perfect Cinderella shoe. Plus, you gotta love that red sole at the bottom. It just makes it unique. You cant go wrong with the Louboutins and dont forget how they always make your legs look just a little bit skinnier and a lot sexier.

Alex: I was looking for something bold for her, something likeblue wedding shoesor a brighter color, but I found these instead Guiseppe Zanotti Chiffon-Flower Sandals. The 3 flowers are just so dramatic and beautiful that I was in love. I think Stacys right shes going to go with a dress that is more subtle and less dramatic. If thats the case, she definitely needs wedding shoes that are all out. If I were her, Id go with these shoes just to add a little something different to her wedding day look.
